
Ms. Mak has over twenty years of experience in the real estate appraisal industry. She is a Member of Appraisal Institute (MAI), a commercial appraisal report reviewer (AI-GRS) and a residential appraisal report reviewer (AI-RRS). Ms. Mak founded Five Boroughs Appraisal Service, LLC (FBAS) and Betsy Mak Appraisal Group. FBAS is a dominant force in the New York City appraisal space leveraging technology to service clients with residential, commercial, industrial, mixed use, cooperatives, condominiums, vacant land, hotels, and multiplex real estate appraisal needs. FBAS employs New York State Certified, Licensed and FHA approved appraisers; and its clientele includes real estate buyers and owners, lawyers, accountants, attorneys, government agencies, banks, market regulators, and investors. Appraisal reports are used for appraisal reviews, asset management, assessment and assessment reviews, cash flow analyses, court testimony and litigation support, estates and trusts, condemnation support, bankruptcy and foreclosure, lending, gift tax planning, proposed development, matrimonial cases, reassessment and zoning, and a wide array of other functions.
Ms. Mak also serves on the Board of Directors of the Appraisal Institute and the Flushing Business Improvement District (BID). She also serves an expert witness for New York City Supreme Courts and the New York City Law Department for appraisal issues concerning guardianship, litigation, and tax certiorari. She has prepared many commercial appraisals, including an appraisal for an office complex consisting of over one million square feet and well over $2 billion in market value. Other expertise includes business evaluations, partial interest discounts, and mass appraisals for development sites of over a thousand units. She is also frequently involved as a developer for various real estate projects, including one- to four-family dwellings, office buildings, and hotels. Prior to her appraisal career, Ms. Mak worked in the mainframe division at IBM.
Ms, Mak earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from The Cooper Union and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from New York University.
